A Van Gogh Audio Guide at The Detroit Institute of Art
Engage by Cell is a proud provider of The Detroit Institute of Art’s Audio Tour services in the acclaimed “Van Gogh in America” exhibit! Tens of thousands of calls and thousands of hours of listening time have been logged since the exhibit launched on October 2, 2022.
The exhibition celebrates the Detroit Institute of Art as the first public museum in the United States to purchase a painting by Vincent van Gogh, his Self-Portrait (1887). On the 100th anniversary of its acquisition, the DIA has built an experience of 74 authentic Van Gogh works from around the world.
In a letter from the director, Salvador Salort-Pons reveals, “‘Van Gogh in America’ tells the story of how Van Gogh’s image was shaped in the minds and hearts of Americans through collections, publications, and the film industry. You will find many compelling and untold stories in the show.”
The audio tour features two captivating versions: a guide for children visitors and one for adults. The children's guide is particularly fun for kids, as it features Mikayla and Jamal, siblings that follow you around the gallery and explore pieces by their subjects, brush strokes, colors, titles, symbolism and more!
The other version features fascinating excerpts on the history and influence of both individual pieces, and Van Gogh’s boom to popularity in America. The audio tour highlights a few special guests – Dr. Jill Shaw, the exhibits curator, who has spent over six years putting together this ground-breaking immersive experience, and descendants of Van Gogh himself!
